Truth by numbers

By Michael J.W. Stickings

So was it "Mission Accomplished" on May 1, 2003? Of course not. And, just to prove it, Think Progress has the numbers, comparing the situation then and now.

(For an intelligent voice on the right, see Ed Morrissey, who points out Bush never said that the war was over. Which may be true, but, nonetheless, there was a cocky swagger to Bush back then, and his people should have known better than to allow him to give a speech in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner. Which suggests that he -- and they -- were happy to give the impression of victory. Libby has more on Ed here.)
