CNN pulls away from rock bottom; or, All hail Jeff Zucker!

By Michael J.W. Stickings

Some notable changes at Jeff Zucker's CNN:

-- The odious Mary Matalin, formerly of Cheney's inner circle? Gone.

-- The annoying James Carville, her Democratic husband? Gone. (He's not all bad, but enough with the hyper-partisan hackery. How about some serious progressive commentators?)

-- The despicable Bill Bennett, pompous right-wing windbag? Gone.

-- The obnoxious Erick Erickson, bullying right-wing blowhard? Gone.

It almost makes me want to watch CNN again. Almost.

Maybe if they got rid of the supremely awful Gloria Borger as well.

  • I hadn't heard that Erick Erickson was leaving CNN until now. This is great news. I haven't watched CNN in years (or taken them seriously). I doubt I will now. But I'm glad they're no longer employing this Rush Limbaugh wannabe.
I've checked out Erickson's site before. It's the same right-wing bullshit that one finds on every right-wing site. There is never one single original thought or idea. These people just regurgitate what they hear or read on Drudge/Rush/Fox. If you've seen one of these sites, you've seen them all.
Which makes me wonder what on earth CNN was trying to achieve by hiring Erickson in the first place. Did they ever really believe that this would give them any cred among America's wingnut crowd? If so, they're fucking stupid.
Incidentally, the wingnuts I know are all convinced that CNN is a "liberal" news channel. Nothing will ever, ever convince them otherwise.
The wingnuts even say that CNN stands for "Clinton News Network." I've tried to point out to them that during the Monica Lewinsky "scandal," CNN gave that "story" saturation coverage, 24/7 for 18 months. They couldn't have given it more coverage if Karl Rove was their news director.
Oh, and during the Bush years, CNN routinely virtually ignored major and important stories like the Valerie Plame case.
